“Only you are you” the text proclaims as it celebrates the life of a child. As in an art song, the cello and piano accompaniment colorfully support the vocal lines of the singers. A beautiful piece with a special message.

"Beautifully conceived; perfect union of music and text. Our university women's choir will sing this March 8....Introduce your singers to this fine, fine composition for treble voices. "
review by: David Bauer, Kearney, , NE - University of Nebraska-Kearney

"My choir that consists of 90, 7th-12th graders (mostly 8th-10th grade) just sang Child of My Heart. What a wonderful piece and such a great text for young people. We had incredible conversations about life, about bullying/harassment, about believing in yourself etc. We spotlighted several singers each rehearsal in a ‘Only you are you segment’ and in one of these segments, a singer that has a muscular disease making her wheelchair bound shared about raising $30,000 for research for her charity of choice. They delved into musical conversations about “why cello” and “what is the intro saying/speaking”, “why not just start with the piano”….. it was remarkable. The variety of tone colors and emotions that can be taught through this piece is wonderful! This piece will probably go down in history as one of our absolute favorites ever and it truly has something special about it. "
