I Am the Wind
Christopher Delp
The composer has captured the spirit of the ancient Welsh poem with great imagination.
I am the wind that breathes upon the sea,
I am the wave on the ocean,
I am the murmur of leaves rustling,
I am the rays of the sun,
I am the beam of the moon and stars,
I am the power of trees growing,I am the bud breaking into blossom,
I am the movement of the salmon swimming,
I am the courage of the wild boar fighting,
I am the speed of the stag running,
I am the strength of the ox pulling the plough,
I am the size of the mighty oak tree,
I am the thoughts of all the people
Who praise my beauty and grace.

I Lift My Eyes

Joan Szymko
A provocative text combining the sentiment of Psalm 121 (I lift my eyes to the hills), with a quote from the Vietnamese Buddhist Monk Thich Naht Hanh (I am solid as a mountain). The composer opens the piece with a beautiful unison melody set to the biblical text. In typical Szymko style, we are treated to a dramatic exploration of the theme, a harmonization of the original melody, and finally a strong statement to end the piece.

Long Time Trav’ling

Sacred Harp tunes, arr. Abbie Betinis
This piece is a real musical trip! Adding excitement to the choral rendition are two tenors who join in at the beginning as they ride high-flying above the choir. Piping Down the Valleys Wild

David Dickau
The composer has cleverly set the poem by William Blake. The piece opens with the flute joyfully piping. The choir enters as the voice of the piper. The piper encounters a child who requests “Pipe a song about a lamb” — a unison treble choir becomes the voice of the child. And so the drama continues to unfold as the flute continues its merry tune throughout.

porky & porkie
Neil Ginsberg
Composer Ginsberg has Broadway in his heart as he sets the E. E. Cummings texts of his WHEN STRANGERS MEET choral suite. The four pieces (SBMP 270-273) may be performed alone, or as a group. Each piece has it's own special character. porky & porkie is perhaps the most playful of the group with its da ba jazz-like interludes. Each piece in the group is easy enough for a high school choir, profound enough for college or adult groups. Throughout, the piano accompaniments demonstrate Neil Ginsberg's vast talent to set a mood
